Kenia Nárez

Biography:

She studied Visual Arts in The State University of Morelos in Mexico from 2001 to 2005, specializing in photography. She has had individual exhibits in Festival de la Luz, an event organized by the Mexican Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina (2006). She has been featured in collective exhibits including Centro de las Artes de Guanajuato (2007); XII Bienal de Fotografía, Centro de la Imagen, Mexico City (2006); Galería Emma Molina Monterrey (2006); Feria México Arte Contemporáneo, MACO, Galería Emma Molina Mexico City. (2006); XXVI Encuentro Nacional de Arte Jóven, Aguascalientes (2006); A group show in Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil, Mexico City (2006); Feria de Arte Contemporáneo, ARCO, Galería Emma Molina, Madrid, Spain (2006); 4th Festival Fotología in Galería Santa Fe. Bogotá, Colombia (2005).

Statement

She uses photography as a medium to deliver a discourse based on fantasy and gender. Gender is seen from the perspective of women to construct themselves, sometimes as objects, fantasy entails the fulfillment of childhood memories that are reinterpreted by child literature, otherwise known as fairy tales.
